Google Email Search

For reasons known only to them, plenty of internet users want to how to do a google email search. In case you’re wondering what one is, it’s when you try and locate an individual email that you’ve got stored somewhere in and among the dozens (or hundreds) that most people allow to clutter up their inbox.

It’s easy to do but doing it doesn’t actually mean you’ll ever acquire the desired result. It pretty much depends on what you input into the search box. Too general and you’ll be flooded with emails, too specific and you might miss it. As an example, if you’re looking for a particular email from a friend, and you and they are in the habit of emailing each other on a regular basis, you’ll struggle to pinpoint the exact one you’re looking for.

Basically you need to modify your search terms, in order to drill down to the one or ones that you’re looking for. The way that the search works (within a google email account) allows you to input particular details. Maybe you’re looking for an invite to a birthday celebration from a friend. The easiest way of locating it would be to do the following:

  • from: steve: birthday or
  • from: steve: party invite

The above are just examples. You’d need to input the name and what you think was in the subject line or a tag from the email itself. Equally you can search for an attachment that you’ve received, using the same method. And please remember that I’m using examples … I have no idea who does or does not exist in your world, or your email contact list for that matter:

  • from: rick: attachment

Easy. Of course it helps if you don’t clutter up your inbox with a load of emails that you don’t need. That said most of us do just that. However, whether you’ve got several hundred or a few dozen, a google email search can and will cope with what you ask of it, providing you give it the right information.

Of course it also helps if you can remember the details of the email you’re searching for. A gmail search is a bit like how well a computer will perform. It’s as good as the person inputting the information. The system is there for you to access; just remember that it’s how you perform the search, not why. Google might be good but it’s not that good. All it’s got in its bag of tricks is a load of algorithmic calculations behind the scenes. Parameters.  Search within them and you’ll get the result/s you’re looking for.
